Issues Term: 1980 – Dec. 31, 1983 (extended until December 31, 1984). In exchange for obtaining credits for the period of service during the strike, the players agreed to extend collective agreements and retirement contracts for an additional year. The pension contract was extended from March 31, 1984 to March 31, 1985. Free agency: The authorization of a free agency remains six years of service of the main league. Free Agent Compensation: Owners and players form a committee consisting of two players (Sal Bando and Bob Boone) and two management representatives (Frank Cashen and Harry Dalton) to study compensation for free agents and prepare a report of January 1, 1981. When changes are recommended and players and owners agree on this, the changes will be part of the basic agreement. If the two parties fail to reach an agreement, the owners will have the right to unilaterally implement their compensation proposal between February 15 and 20, 1981. If the owners pass this step, the players will have the right to reopen the basic agreement on this issue and strike until June 1, 1981, provided they have informed the owners of a strike date until March 1, 1981.
If the players decide not to strike at that time, they will lose their right to strike for the duration of the contract (until after the 1983 season). Sponsors and networks that are not parties to the baseball CBA and the MLB-MLBpa agreement for 2020 are also relevant to this debate. As has already been explained in Sports Illustrated, sponsors and networks could demand significant financial concessions from MLB and its clubs. They could be allowed to make these requests through a case of force majeure and impossibility clauses. The potential decline in revenue for MLB and its clubs, especially if spectators are not admitted to ball parks for the foreseeable future, could lead to much less lucrative player contracts. The NFL guarantees players 47% of the total turnover during the duration of their employment contract. Unlike baseball, however, the NFL does not guarantee individual player contracts. Term Edition: April 6, 1968 – April 5, 1970 Minimum wage: The minimum wage for major leagues increases from $6,000 to $10,000 for 1968 and 1969.

Severance Pay: Released players are entitled to a 30-day salary.
